The Parker brand has been around for a long time, over 40 years, and if you ask any experienced shaver or someone who’s been shaving for quite some time, you’ll find out that the brand is actually very popular. The Parker 99R is a newer product styling a long handle and having a weight of 3.4 ounces which is very heavy when you consider other razors. The frame of the razor and the head are made from brass and coated with chrome plating for added durability. The head is opened by the classic twist-to-open mechanism. This makes changing of blades very easy and safe.
Buying the razor also comes with 5 Shark Super Chrome blades which are capable of giving you that smooth and clean shave similar to that of a barber shop shave. These Shark blades are known to be very aggressive and are among the very popular DE blades together with Feather, and Derby.
- Quality: 9/10
Parker safety razors are made from solid brass. It’s not the strongest material for safety razors out there it is still very sturdy. It’s made to withstand high pressure and impact forces. The main problem with some razors not made from strong alloys is that they often get dents when they’re dropped or hit on hard surfaces.
- User Friendly: 8/10
Double-edged razors are not known to be user friendly. They are hard to work with if you’re a first time user. The shaped and the direction of the blade present some dangerous angles that often cause cuts. But once the skill has been learned, shaving can be really satisfying.
- Grip: 10/10
The handle of the razor is four inches long and is detailed with spiraling textures. This gives superior grip even when wet and allows for full-control of the razor when doing wet shaving.
- Ease of Blade Replacement: 10/10
The butterfly mechanism of the razor is a traditional signature of Parker razors. Twisting the bottom of the handle opens the head from the top. Minimum contact between the fingers and the blade is achieved when the head is opened from the top. Other traditional DE blades have their head open from one side. This can be quite dangerous since the finger get close to one edge of the blade and opening the head can even let the blade bounce out of inertia.
- Aggressiveness: 9/10
Double-edged razors are only as aggressive as the blades that are put into them. But it also goes the other way around. A blade can only deliver its accurate sharpness if the razor is designed to allow it. This razor is made for all standard-sized DE blades, and allows for aggressive shaving as long the razor is used properly.
- Adjustability: 8/10
The razor is good on its own. The Shark blades are the perfect blades for the razor although they can always be replaced with another brand. Aside from that, there is no other adjustments that can be done for the razor.
- Balance: 10/10
The balance of a razor is dependent on its weight. This heavyweight razor offer better balance than its competition.
- Value for Money: 10/10
Double-edged razors are always worth their price. They are cheaper and they are more effective than the modern ones albeit the skill required to master them.
- Overall: 10/10
The Shark blades, the butterfly-head, and the weight of the razor puts it on the top spot among DE razors. The Parker brand even adds more appeal to it.
