Why Use Parker 22R – Long Handle Butterfly for Clean & Close Shave

The Parker brand is one of the most popular brands of razors there are. It has been producing razors for so many years now that some people’s first razors were Parker’s. With the emergence of modern razors, people are now paying less attention to how shaving should be done to achieve that clean and close shave.

The Parker 22R is one of earlier razors produced by the brand. Although there are other double edge safety razors that are newer that this razor, it still has some very distinct and exceptional qualities. For one thing, it’s already made from all metal. Its entire frame, the handle, and the head are made from solid brass. Brass is widely used for making razors since it’s heavy and very durable. The razor also has a nickel/chrome finish. The presence of the nickel gives the razor a darker appearance as compared to other razor that are only coated with chrome.

The handle of the razor has indentions and corrugations that spiral around it. This design is intended to provide good grip when shaving. The razor is prevented from slipping with this feature but one common problem with the design is that it can be a site for lather or soap deposits if not cleaned properly after each use.

A unique element to the razor is how the twist handle is located at the top near the head instead of being at the bottom of the handle. This handle is twisted to open the head into butterfly doors. This is a very classic mechanism for replacing the blade of a razor. Compared to the other conventional step in blade replacement which is total disassembly of the razor and the blade, the butterfly doors are safer and quicker.

It’s an older edition of the Parker razors and its design is not as smart as the newer ones. The cost is very reasonable considering what you’ll be getting with this razor.

  • Overall: 9/10

Overall, it’s a good DE razor. It works well with any DE blade and has good balance. Cost-wise, it’s cheap but if you’re willing to spend a lit bit more money, then there are other razor blades that you can get which have more features and smarter designs than this one.
