Merkur HD Slant Safety Razor 37C Review

The Merkur 37C is one of the most unique designs by Merkur. It has a head that tilts the head a bit so that one side is higher than the other.  This features make the razor very aggressive and ideal for long and thick beards. A titled blade allows sure slicing of each bristles when shaving. This unique head design requires very delicate pressure when shaving. The aggressiveness of the razor is increased very little pressure should be applied so that you won’t get yourself cut. The handle has a classic knurled texture to provide excellent grip.

Rating:

  • Quality: 10/10

The razor is made from Germany using stainless steel and a chrome finish. It looks very classic and traditional. It’s expected to last for a lifetime, bearing the Merkur brand.

  • User Friendly: 7/10

This DE safety razor is extremely hard to use if you don’t know what you’re doing. This razor is recommended for seasoned shavers especially those who have long and thick bears.

  • Grip: 10/10

The knurling of the handle has a classic pattern. It ensures that the razor will not slip during wet shaving. The handle also has a barber pole design. This is very common among the older designs of safety razors. This brings the weight at the base of the razor to make the shaving eaiser.

  • Ease of Blade Replacement: 9/10

The razor separates into three pieces when the head is unscrewed from the handle. You do this when you want to replace the blade of the razor. It’s not the easiest way to do a blade replacement. The easier way is when the head just opens up when the handle is twisted. This is called the “butterfly doors.” It’s quite common among classic safety razors. This mechanism might lessen the effort and hazards involve in replacing a blade but it also has a disadvantage. Usually, it’s the bottom of the handle that needs to be twisted to open or close the head of the razor. With constant twisting, the knob becomes loose which in turn makes the butterfly doors loose as well.

  • Aggressiveness: 10/10

The razor is really aggressive. Aggressiveness is important to get that closest shave results. The drawback with aggressive razors is that they should be mastered first before reaping all the potential that it possesses.

  • Adjustability: 8/10

You can use different standard DE razor blades with this razor.

  • Balance: 9/10

The razor provides superior balance with its heavy weight. The balance and the long handle make the razor very user friendly as compared to other razors.

  • Value for Money: 10/10

The razor is still priced at around $50.00 which is a bit above the regularly price of DE safety razors.

  • Overall: 9/10

This razor brings heavy duty shaving to all the people who need and want it. Merkur has designed a razor that is at par with the straight razors but with the convenience of a double edge razor. This razor is not for everyone, especially those who don’t want to spend a lot of time in shaving.
